You can always count on me going to the spa every year on my birthday.
The spa is my happy place just ask my sisters ! 😊 A time for me to unwind and think of absolutely nothing!
It has been tough not having this quiet time for myself during this pandemic. During the many weeks that we have all been working in our new corner offices within our homes, I began to think about some of the things I loved most about the spa. One being the cucumber water or the orange slice water.
I’m just joking, I really love the scrub treatments done with the sugar or salt scrubs.
So, I thought…. Why don’t I make one of my own? And begin to recreate that space for myself.
I sought out to make a scrub that would not only smell good and feel good... But could have some health-added benefits as well. The Dandelion…..Yes that white fluffy ball of a flower we all blew the petals off of in hopes that the wish we made was going to come true. Yes that dandelion.
Well as the dandelion develops into that pretty soft white flower it is yellow first. That part of the plant contains amazing medicinal and nutritional benefits to the human body. It contains potent antioxidants, great source of fiber, but what caught my attention was the aid in soothing muscle aches and arthritis pain. Both were right up my alley since I am on my feet for long periods of time daily.
I thought if I could blend the two attributes, the feeling of the scrub and what I could get out of the scrub -this would be great! So, I had the long white robe, comfy slippers, my fancy waters... now body Scrub here we come !
Dandelion Body Scrub
Recipe: (Yields Two 24oz Containers)
1 Cup Avocado Oil
1 Cup Grapeseed Oil
1 Cup Coconut Oil
1.5 Cups Dried Dandelion
1 Cup Water
Large Jar with Lid
1 Cup Sugar (granulated for lighter feel and Demerara for courser feel)
¼ Cup Dandelion oil (you can add a little more oil if you like your scrub looser)
1 ½ Cup Vegetable Glycerin
9 Tbsp Vitamin E Oil
25 Drops Essential Oil (I like to use Lavender or Mint)
Plastic mason jar like container or any plastic container with screw top lid. (I use ULINE S-22855)
To Make Dandelion Oil:
Pour grapeseed, coconut, and avocado oil in jar, add dandelions and screw top on. In a large pot or electric slow cooker add water and place glass jar into it .
Cook on low heat for five hours. If water runs low refill with water. When cooking time is complete place jar in cool place for two days.
Your oil should be a Golden Yellow. Strain flowers from oil and into clean bowl with metal sieve (mesh colander) . Stir flowers in sieve until all oil has been released from them. Discard flowers.
To Make the Scrub:
Add all ingredients to a bowl. Stir together with a spatula. Spoon scrub into container and close tightly.
